Novell Installation Services (NIS) is an SDK for creating install programs. It is written almost entirely in Java* and runs on NetWare and Windows. With it you can create installs that range from a simple file copy to setting up a network operating system. Install programs created with NIS use a wizard-style graphical user interface. NIS includes an install creation Wizard to help you create basic installs quickly and easily, as well as tools and programming conventions for customizing your install.
Novell Installation Services is unsupported. This download is provided only as a courtesy to our development community and is no longer in active development at Novell.
We strongly recommend that you do not use NIS in a production environment.
Sample programs are shipped with this release to help in understanding how to use NIS.
Should you wish to run any of the sample code programs, you must run them on a computer with an existing authenticated network connection because the sample code does not rely on a Java authenticator.
