1.0 Introduction

The exteNd DirectorTM Gadget Developer Kit (GDK) provides tools to develop, test, and deploy gadgets for Novell exteNd Director. The Standard Edition of exteNd Director was formerly known as Novell Portal Services. Gadgets are applications that reside within the portal and provide access to resources such as directories, databases, and Web pages. They are the building blocks of the Novell exteNd Director portal.

The SDK includes documentation, sample gadgets, a stand-alone gadget testing environment, and a tool that packages gadgets for installation into the exteNd Director portal.


2.0 Support Status

The GDK is unsupported. This download is provided as a courtesy to the development community and is no longer in active development at Novell.

We strongly recommend that you do not use the GDK in a production environment.


3.0 Requirements

To develop gadgets with the GDK, you must have

4.0 Installation Instructions

The GDK is part of the Novell Developer Kit (NDK), and can be downloaded from the exteNd Director Gadget Developer Kit area of the NDK web site. The GDK consists of software, sample code, and documentation components, which can be downloaded in a single ZIP-compressed archive file or as separate ZIP files. In addition, the documentation can be viewed on the NDK site.

To install a GDK component, use an unzip utility to decompress the contents of the ZIP file to a directory of your choice. Make sure that you select the options that will append the path of each file, as stored in the archive, to the output directory.

To read or print the documentation, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later. This is a free download.

The download contains PDF files in the install directory\doc directory.

The documents in this download were created as standalone files; therefore, links between files in this download and links to files in other downloads will not resolve.
